Venezuela
In Venezuela, ITEN has been providing technical
assistance on a study estimating the impact of tobacco tax increases on
tobacco use, government revenues, and related outcomes.
ITEN participated in the Workshop on Economics of Tobacco Control held
in January 10-11, 2002 in Venezuela. The workshop was organized by the
Minister of Health of Venezuela and assembled representatives from the
Ministry of Finances (Tax Department - SENIAT), Ministry Health, Ministry
of Commerce, Ministry of Justice, a former Health Minister and anti-tobacco
advocate, and PAHO representatives. Frank Chaloupka was invited to participate
in the Workshop as a special guest.
