CZYNNIKI WARUNKUJACE PALENIA TYTONIU W POLSCE
22 slides prepared and presented in Polish during the annual National Conference for Research held in memory of Professor Franciszek Venulet in Warsaw Poland in November 1999. [Ogolnopolska konferencja Naukowa im. Profesora Franciszka Venuleta - Warszawa, listopad 1999 r. ]

[AVAILABLE IN POLISH ONLY] This presentation explains the economic rationale and framework used for modeling cigarette demand (including user fess, market inefficiency, the total costs associated with smoking and price elasticity). Based on results from a 1999 survey of smokers, it highlights smoker-reported impacts of higher tax rates (and prices) on smoking participation and consumption and suggests how and why these results may differ across socio-demographic groups. This presentation also outlines the intended effects of non-price policy interventions on smoking behaviors (smoking restriction, counter-advertising and tobacco advertising bans). Drawing upon the results from a 1998 survey of smokers, this presentation highlights smoker reported reactions to the issuance of health warning labels on cigarette packs sold in Poland.

EKONOMICZNE ASPEKTY PALENIA TYTONIU
19 slides prepared and presented in Polish during the 2001 Workshops for the
National Health and Socio-Economic Campaign Leading to the Decline of Tobacco Consumption held in
Warsaw, Poland in March 2001

[AVAILABLE IN POLISH ONLY] This presentation highlights the important economic rationale surrounding government intervention into a country's tobacco market (including user fees, the total costs associated with smoking and the characteristics of smoker responsiveness to tobacco price changes). Using data from three consecutive consumer surveys (spring 1999, fall 1999 and spring 2000), this presentation highlights smoker-reported impacts of higher tax rates (and prices) on smoking participation by socio-economic status (Education, income, self-reported socio-economic status).
